Varun Dhawan Slams Media for 'Insensitive' Coverage of Shefali Jariwala’s Death: ‘Why Capture Someone’s Grief?’

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has strongly criticised sections of the media for their insensitive behaviour while covering the death of actress and reality show personality Shefali Jariwala. The Kaanta Laga and Bigg Boss 13 fame star passed away at the age of 42 on Friday night, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest. Her final rites were held in Mumbai on Saturday, where grieving family members and close friends came together to bid farewell.
However, the sombre event was marred by aggressive media presence. Paparazzi were seen crowding the funeral venue, shoving cameras into the faces of mourners. Shefali’s husband, Parag Tyagi, was visibly distressed and even pleaded with the media to respect their privacy.
Expressing his disapproval, Varun Dhawan took to Instagram on Sunday to call out the lack of compassion. In his message, he questioned the need for documenting someone’s grief and asked media personnel to reflect on the impact of such intrusive coverage. He wrote, “Again, one more passing of a soul being insensitively covered by the media. I just don't understand why do u have to cover someone's grief. Everyone looks so uncomfortable with this. How is this benefiting anyone? & my request to my friends in the media, this isn't the way someone would want their final journey covered.”
Varun’s statement has resonated with many online, sparking renewed conversations around the ethics of media conduct during moments of personal loss.
